World Mental Health Day
Good day folks. Today is World Mental Health Day, and I thought it would be a good idea to post up a few thoughts to help you to be “mindfull.”
It’s a very stressfull time just now, especially in the western world, so we really need to do something positive to try and maintain our mental wellbeing.
If you just pick up on one of the following tips, you’re on the way to keeping your mind in good order.
- Spend a few moments each day to keep relationships fresh. Stay connected with family, friends, nieghbours and work colleagues. Maybe try to forge new friendships, or re-kindle old ones. Life’s too short to carry grudges, so bury them and improve your own life!
- Learn yourself a new skill. It could be anything from learning to cook, to learning to play a musical instrument. It will give you something fresh to think about.
- Take up a hobby. It doesn’t matter if it’s meaningless to anybody else. It’s your bit of escapism! I personally re-kindled my interest in sea fishing recently. If I actually catch a fish, it’s a bonus! The point is, it allows me to decompress and refresh my mind. It doesn’t matter what your hobby is, if it gives you some time to get away from day to day stress – it’s well worth it.
- Give something back to society. We can be that wrapped up in our own woes, that we can forget that there are others out there in a much worse situation than our own! It can be anything from giving a kind word and a smile, to volunteering some of your time occassionally to a local charity.
The latter point is quite an important one, and a good aid to your own mental wellbeing. Knowing you have done some good for others, you know, give them something to smile about, gives you a good feeling. If you’re feeling good in yourself – you’re on the way to maintaining your own mental wellbeing.
Till the next time, keep your chin up.
Paul
